The real-time communication tool for educators
Customer Support

ASP: An Application Service Provider is a central site that hosts software applications on its own servers within its own facilities. Customers rent the use of the application and access it over the Internet.

Conference Host: The conference host is the person who initiated the conference. The host assumes initial control of the collaboration tools used during the conference. The host can pass control of a tool to another participant if a request is made. The host can also reassert control at any time during the collaboration.

Data Conference: Data Conferences are conducted through the Comotiv Collaboration Data Console. The Data Console lets project members in different locations collaborate by sharing a document, a program, or even a desktop. Through the Data Console, project members can engage in text chat with each other, share a common whiteboard in real-time, and transfer files between data conference participants.

File Conference: A conference that is specifically for multipoint file viewing. The initiator of a file conference can manipulate a shared file using the Comotiv Collaboration File Viewer. A file conference is set up using the Edit Files option in a project. A file conference allows members of the same project to view and manipulate a file.

File Viewer: A collaborative Java-based application for multipoint viewing of files (file conference) with markup capability. Control of the markup layer can be requested by any conference participant, or reassumed at any time by the host (initiator) of the file conference. The viewer's best used with a web conference, where video, audio, and file viewing all happen in real time. The viewer also has a View Only option that allows you to view a file without starting or joining a file conference. Files located in Comotiv Collaboration can also be downloaded to your local machine.

Markup Layer: A virtual layer that accepts the placing of graphics and text that is superimposed on a file being viewed from multiple locations.

Navigation Tree: The area at the left-hand side of the Comotiv Collaboration window, where you can expand, collapse, and enter any hierarchical level in a workspace.

Presentation Mode Conference: Presentation mode is a moderated conference in the Comotiv Collaboration Conference Console. The user scheduling the conference is the conference host and has full audio and video capabilities. The conference invitees cannot transmit video and they cannot transmit audio unless granted permission by the host. Data conferencing occurs in an external window.

Profile: A collection of information such as name, username, email address, and so forth that is specific to an individual Comotiv Collaboration user.

Project: A project is a collaboration of people around a central task. All of the hierarchy in Comotiv Collaboration is project-based. You must create a project before you can initiate a conference, create a task, share a file and so forth. Comotiv Collaboration is not a project management tool, per se, but is a powerful collaboration suite that serves as a useful adjunct to all members of a project.

Subproject: A project within a project.

Systems Check: Systems Check is an application that checks to see if your system meets the minimum requirements for running Comotiv Collaboration.

Team Mode Conference: Team mode is an open conference in the Comotiv Collaboration Conference Console. All conference members are granted the audio, video, and data conferencing permissions as specified in the Create Conference window.

Video Conference: The simultaneous, real-time sharing of video and audio data from different locations. A video conference uses the conference tool in Comotiv Collaboration and includes multi-point, real-time video with full-duplex audio, along with chat, whiteboard, and desktop sharing.

View Panel: Denotes the central part of the Comotiv Collaboration window, located to the right of the Navigation Tree.

Workspace: An individual's work domain that includes projects, links to conferences, contacts, files, and personal information.
